Be Different

You don’t have to quit your job, dump your “other”, or move far away to change your life. You don’t have to wait for your kids to go to college to reclaim your life. You don’t even have to change your look to get a fresh start. Waiting, worrying, and woe-ing will get you would haves, could haves, and should haves and before you know it, you will have wished your life away.

If you want today to be different, then do things differently. Think about things differently.

Otherwise the same patterns will reappear at your new job, with your new love interest, or in your new city. The old attitudes will not have moved out with your kids. And certainly, the same opinions of yourself will greet you at the mirror.

If you want today to be different, then be different.

In the spirit of this post, I branched the very next day and did something different from my norm. I went to a writing group that meets weekly at Wildflour (a local bakery). I first learned of the group last November and was interested, but also full of self-doubt. Yep, I spent 10 months waiting and worrying and wondering what if. What if I was different from the others?

Today, I showed up. Magic met me there in the form of creative minds and kind hearts. I felt that buzzing sensation of excitement and purpose from within my core. It took me 10 months to shed my fear of being different by doing something different. And that one tiny shift in focus? Made all the difference.
