Human Highlights: Rules, Reunions, & Silly Faces

Human Highlights is a friendly reminder to forgive your human moments, to celebrate the highlights, and to enjoy life’s little lovelies in the interim.

Human Moment: It’s 11.5 hours of travel from our resort in Cabo to our home. During the eighth hour, we were in the Atlanta airport for a relatively quick layover. We picked up sandwiches and headed to the Delta Sky Club to sit peacefully for a bit before our second flight. I was past a growling stomach, past the shakes, and well into the red zone of FEED ME NOW. How relieved I was, then, to sit in the bar area unwrapping our sandwiches while Mark got a beer. My first bite nearly touched my lips when a worker came up to me and said, “You have to leave. Outside food isn’t allowed here.”

You’ve got to be kidding me. Why? Because it competes with the sandwiches that you don’t sell here?!

Snarky was furious. So was I. Rules that don’t make sense piss me off quicker than quick. But, because I was hungry, by the time I rewrapped our sandwiches, descended the stairs, and made it out the door, my anger turned to tears.

There I sat, at Gate C36,  eating a tuna salad sandwich with one hand and mopping up tears with the other. For as much as I dislike stupid rules, I equally dislike feeling sorry for myself.

I blame the hunger and chalk it all up to being human.

Highlight: It’s a two-way tie between two different reunions this week – seeing Miller for the first time in 4.5 days, and boogying with Muscato on the dance floor at the same place of our wedding reception with the same band cranking out great music.
