One Step At A Time

Depression is when something (or multiple things) from your past has weighted you down so severely that you’re stuck – you’re not moving forward with life. Maybe you’re going through the motions, but you aren’t progressing, not even by a step.

Anxiety is when you’re so worried about what’s to come that you’re already 50 paces ahead of yourself. Your head becomes so overcome with options that you find it difficult to make a move. You’re overwhelmed by so many steps.

Right here, right now is where you are. Not back there. Not up ahead. Here.

What do you want? Do you want something to focus on other than pity? Do you want to feel something other than sad? Ease perhaps? Playful? Able? Safe? (There are lots of options besides happy and sad.)

Do you want to actually complete a project instead of getting partway through and then moving on to the next distraction? Or, would you like to actually start a project instead of putting it off? Rather than fretting, how about focusing?

From right here, right now, what’s one step you can take in the direction of what you want?

One step. That’s all. Take it. Then, think about the next one. You don’t have to have all the answers. Just find one from where you are. One step at a time.
