Human Highlights is a Sunday tradition at Commode To Joy. It’s a friendly reminder to forgive your human moments, celebrate the highlights, and enjoy life’s little lovelies in the interim.
Human Moment: I woke up in a horrendous mood Friday morning. I was coming in on the Richter Scale somewhere between Ursula the Sea Witch and Maleficent. When I put Miller down for his nap, I thanked him for putting up with me.
Seriously, as a parent, how many times have you thought that you deserve an award for putting up with short fuses, short attention spans, and bad moods?
Let’s flip that coin over.
How many times have your kids deserved an award for putting up with the same things from you?
Miller got the gold star Friday.
I got a timeout come naptime.
Highlight: I saw Grandma Alice briefly Thursday evening. In many ways she’s your stereotypical grandmother: World’s-Best-Cook (and cookie baker) who can sew anything. But she’s not the lovey-dovey gushy cuddly affectionate type.
When she left my house Thursday, she stopped and wrapped me in a hug. The kind of hug that keeps the boogeyman away. The kind that communicates more than words. She kissed my cheek and told me she loved me. She meant it. It poured from every ounce of her being.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know Grandma Alice is one of my most cherished people on the planet. Someday she won’t be here…
She hugged me for a few seconds, just long enough to last a lifetime. I’ll hold onto that moment, just as she held onto me by my front door – forever.
Life’s Little Lovelies: Miller hasn’t slept in his crib for a long time, but it still gets use. It’s become one of his go-to “toys”, along with the baby monitor. We average about an hour a day playing in his room. It’ll be one of those trends, I’m sure, that’ll end one day without us even realizing it. Then we’ll look back someday and say “remember when…”
Yeah, these playdates in his room, baby monitor included, are definitely one of life’s little lovelies for me.
What are your Human Highlights from the week?
